- Gateshead Headteacher

In times of war, we must all do our bit!

That History Bloke has amassed a huge array of WWII Home Front artefacts in his time, and he'd love to bring them to your classroom. These amazing object were given to him by a variety of local people, and each has a story to tell...

Based on the artime experiences of a real North-Eastern family, work on your history skills by working out the various jobs of the people that owned the artefacts. Evacuees, ARP wardens, and hard-working mothers, all brought to life through object handling. Sound the gas rattle, shake the powdered egg, listen to the air raid siren!

Next, identify the planes flying overhead - friend or foe? Watch footage of local residents on the home front going about their lives as war raged on...

This activity uses real artefacts and real stories, passed on by people from the wartime North East - an unmissable, memorable experience!
